THE BOOK
David Marden once wrote a careful paragraph. Then, late on a Sunday night, he let it go.
Now six people are dead at a roadside yard east of Dnipro, and the review that called their evacuation safe carries his name. It is not the review he wrote.
Sent to Kyiv to find a missing interpreter, Marden finds instead a chain of assurances: a London firm that needs the contract, a broker in Vienna who sells names, a payroll clerk carrying records someone is prepared to kill for. Every link has a reason. None of them asked who was buying.
In a city under bombardment, with an assault charge over him and the wrong people beginning to like him, Marden has one thing left to offer: the truth, in the right order.
